Crisis time, Mr Panday
THE EDITOR: Prior to the Independence Conference in London when our country became independent in 1962, the PNM Government led by Dr Eric Williams and the Opposition DLP headed by Rudranath Capildeo failed to agree on various issues. As a result, there was much speculation that the conference would have been aborted.
On the eve of the conference, however, these two great men got together and settled their differences, resulting in a successful conference and — hurrah — Independence for our beloved country. Today our dear country is being devastated with crime. I now urge our Prime Minister, Honourable Patrick Manning and Opposition Leader, Honourable Basdeo Panday to get together and agree on the implementation of the various Bills/Laws etc which would greatly assist in curbing the escalation of crime in our dear country.
Come on Mr Panday, this is “crisis time” don’t hold our country to ransom — please — no stipulations — no “red herrings!” Our nation comes first, history will judge you by your response. Let’s not fiddle (like Nero) while our dear country burns.
