Varendra ‘Man of the Match’ as UWI crush Munroe Road
UWI inflicted an 81-run beating on Constellation Munroe Road as the Fruta Twenty/20 Cricket Festival continued at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva, on Friday night. But a late downpour prevented any play in the night’s other fixture between CLICO Preysal and W Connection, with the match officials eventually ruling the match as a no result. Sent in to bat by Munroe Road, the UWI batsmen cruised to 151 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs with “Man-of-the-Match” Varendra Maharaj hitting 70, inclusive of three fours and five sixes.
Imran Khan contributed 24 and former national youth allrounder Richard Kelly made 17. Navin Ramlogan and Valmiki Deonarine collected two wickets apiece for Munroe Road. The Munroe Road batsmen never got any sort of momentum at their turn at the crease, and were skittled out for 70 with nine deliveries remaining. Gopaul Nanan topscored for Munroe Road with ten. Khan was the leading UWI wicket-taker with three for two in 2.3 overs, while Rodney Jaglal got two for eight and Dale Ramlakhan returned with two for 15.
