Murphy’s Law hits Tobago Express
THE EDITOR: I was very disappointed to read the recent article by the Chamber of Commerce concerning the Tobago Express. Our Prime Minister Manning demonstrated his commitment to the people of Trinidad and Tobago when he implemented a fare subsidy of $100 TT so that all citizens could enjoy the convenience of air travel between our beautiful islands. This created a considerable increase in passengers (around 100 percent) using the service and all of our dedicated employees have risen to the challenge and have provided the best possible service to our customers.
The Chamber should realise that businesses have to constantly deal with all of the constraints and impediments facing them. The airline industry throughout the world is experiencing considerable problems and major restructuring is currently underway in all sectors. Tobago Express has and will continue to introduce many changes to improve the service to our customers. However, the realities of certain conditions, which are out of our direct control, will still continue to affect us. The Airport Authority currently operates their facilities from 6 am to 10 pm each day, due to the resurfacing of the runway.
This schedule does not give us the necessary flexibility to deal with the uncontrollable events that occur. Weather is a constant challenge! Mechanical breakdowns occur! Key employee crises arise! Financial constraints exist! Unfortunately, Murphy’s Law has been enacted too frequently in the recent past. Let’s hope Murphy gets very ill and does not come to Trinidad and Tobago for a long time to come!
