Salsa Moves for Starter Allowance

THE feature Starter Allowance, third race on the Arima Race Club Day 16 programme at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, today, looks like a match race between speedy Salsa Moves and Bandinthong. This 1100 metres race on the turf course with total prize money of $23,000, has been robbed of two runners, twice Infallible and Kaser’s Gold, reducing the field to just six. But with Lovely Honoree and Sure Wager holding the engagement, an exciting finish seems in the offing. Another event which turfites will find very interesting is the 1350 metres race for three-year-old imported maidens. Soul Asylum should be for one in this, but Life In The Sky, Rebel Music, Premier Attraction and Royal Miss have been galloping really well and could just about run the favourite out of it.

The Restricted Handicap should see Movietowne Magic changing the fortunes of the Dachin Racing Stables led by Derek Chin, who lost promising Daredevil Hero a few days ago. This American-bred colt has developed a bad habit in leaving the starting stalls several lengths behind his field. Now handled by Douglas Bennett, and with champion jockey Brian Harding astride, this fault should be corrected and he should be the winner of the 1350 metres race with a purse of $21,000. The consistent creole Naturelly Classy, Golden Honour and Bon Voyage should have a say in the final result, however. Sweet N’ Beautiful and Bandikoot should dispute the finish in the 1100 metres turf race for three-year-old West Indies-bred maidens.

Song Of Freedom looks the one to be on in the day’s opener over 1100 metres on the turf. This speedy gelding will have most to fear from The Chairman, Travel Agent and Full Of Promises. Melanie My Love, beaten into third place in the Union Park Turf Club Guineas on Indian Arrival Day, Monday last, looks a likely nap selection in the 1200 metres run for three-year-old West Indies-bred non-winners of two career races. Stablemates Majestic and Music Man, Dealer’s Choice and the inconsistent Trini To D Bone should be in the toss up for the other placings in this race. Post time for the first race today is 12.15 pm.
