TT’s Anil Roberts to coach top swimmers in US

ANIL ROBERTS will lend his coaching expertise at the Auburn University in the United States when he conducts a swim camp at the venue’s swim team facilities from June 7 to 25. According to a press release, the long-standing Piranha Aquatics and national swim coach will have, under his charges, the international swimmers based at Auburn who will compete at the upcoming Athens Olympics. Roberts also plans to invite the national Olympic swim team, which includes Caribbean champ George Bovell III, to the camp. The Roberts-Bovell tandem, as well as Bovell’s father and manager George II, will also be heading to Europe next month when the Trinidadian world record holder competes in the Nare Nostrum Swim Meet.

The first stage is scheduled for July 9 and 10 in Barcelona, Spain; while the second leg takes place on July 12 and 13. Bovell III, the 200-metre individual medley world short course record holder, will face off with 2000 Olympic gold medallist Maximillio Rossolino of Italy and former 200m IM world record holder Jani Sievenen of Finland. Roberts will also work with five Auburn swimmers during the Swim Meet, including Pan Am gold medallist Eileen Coparopa, Kristy Coventry and multiple Commonwealth Games medallist Derek Gibb.
