Gas station owner kidnapped

LESS THEN 24 hours after the country’s youngest kidnap victim, Saada Singh, was reunited with her family, there was another abduction. In the latest incident, Alvin Nunes, 71, owner of Nunes Gas Station at the corner of Reid Lane and Belmont Circular Road, was abducted from his business place.

According to reports, at around 9.30 am yesterday, Nunes was at the gas station when two men drove up in a white car, bundled him into the vehicle at gunpoint and sped off. Police were contacted and immediately members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad swung into action using helicopters to track the car into the Morvant area. However, they lost sight of the kidnappers when the car was abandoned in the Malick area. When Newsday visited the service station, Nunes’ siblings and friends were reluctant to comment on his abduction. “All we can say is two men drove into the station and grabbed him at 9.30 am. We have received no ransom demands,” one of them said. Close relatives, who refused to give their names, said they feared for Nunes’ safety. Up to late yesterday no ransom demand had been received but AKS sources said they are pursuing several leads in the matter.
