West Indies take full command
KINGSTON, Jamaica: Ramnaresh Sarwan slammed an unbeaten 261 yesterday and Shivnarine Chanderpaul added 101 not out as the West Indies took solid command against Bangladesh on the third day of the second and final Test at Sabina Park, here. The pair’s stroke-filled partnership of 262 set up a mammoth West Indian total of 559 for four declared, a lead of 275 runs on first innings.
And Bangladesh stumbled to 66 for three wickets at the close, staring at their 27th defeat in 30 Tests with two days remaining. Left-armer Pedro Collins led the slide with two wickets, while Tino Best added the other. Sarwan, who completed his fifth Test century overnight, transformed his 106 not out to the eighth highest score by a West Indian. The right-hander, two weeks away from his 24th birthday, blasted 32 boundaries to all parts of the outfield in a knock spanning 9 1/2 hours. He faced 401 balls in compiling his highest ever first-class score.
