Police shoot down champs Crabs
A 35TH MINUTE goal from Brent Lyons proved to be the winner as Police edged L-Sporto Crab Connection 1-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima on Tuesday night, as the National Super League continued. The lawmen earned their second successive victory of the season in a match which see-sawed from back to forth during the 90-minute duration. But Carib fell to their second straight defeat, 2-1 to the hands of Maraval Youth Academy in the first match of the double-header at Malabar. Wesley Noreiga (fourth minute) and Edison Gift (26th) gave the Maraval squad a two-goal cushion, while Keive Vanloo got Carib’s lone goal in second half stoppage time.
The “Eastern Lions” Joe Public also recorded their second win in a row after they trounced Medianet East San Juan United 5-1 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. National defender Derek King opened the scoring for the hosts in the second minute, with striker Nigel Hart widening the gap in the 20th. Former national youth team forward Ellis Dyette got Joe Public’s third in the 68th while Tobago-born midfielder Garvin McKenna found the back of the net in the 80th. Sheldon Hernandez got San Juan’s lone item in the 89th but Gayson Gregory completed the scoring for the Eastern Lions when he struck in stoppage time.
Biwater Stokelyvale also have a two-match winning streak, following a 5-0 mauling of Club Sando at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Curtis Job put the Tobagonians got the ball rolling with a 30th minute goal, followed by a 46th minute item from striker Michael Carrington. Warren Phillips converted a 53rd minute penalty, while Jamon Quashie made it 4-0 in the 67th and Keston Yorke ended the rout with an 89th minute contribution. Sheldon Mondesir’s 80th minute goal proved to be the winner as The Harvard Club edged Caroni 2-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Kendell Baptiste struck for the St James-based team after five minutes of play but Kevin Joseph equalised for the Central lads in the 28th.
The game seemed to be pettering out for a draw until Mondesir struck, to the delight of the pro-Harvard crowd. Superstar Rangers earned their second drawn result of the season, as they were held to a 1-1 tie by WASA Clean andWhite at the WASA Grounds, St Joseph. Jason Charles put Superstar ahead in the 12th minute but Keston Thomas equalised for the hosts five minutes later. In the day’s other matchup Moruga vs Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix battled to a goalless draw at the Otis Memorial Park, Moruga.
