Clarke Road in Fruta final tonight
CARIB National League Division 1 champions First Citizens Clarke Road United will meet Carib Cup winners W-Connection Wanderers in the 2004 Fruta Twenty/20 Cricket Series final at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, tonight. Clarke Road defeated defending champions CLICO Preysal in the semi-finals, while Wanderers whipped PowerGen. Preysal batted first on Wednesday night and posted 121 for nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Hollister Pajotte topscored with 40 and Shazam Babwah got 22. Mahadeo Bodoe took two for 11 and Alan Mahabir two for 21.
Gregory Mahabir 31 and Tishan Maraj 22 helped Clarke Road knock off the required runs for the loss of four wickets with 13 balls to spare. Alan Mahabir was named Man of the Match. In the other semis, PowerGen scored 144 for nine wickets with Dave Mohammed hitting 54 not out including five sixes and two fours. But Wanderers rattled up 146 for six wickets with captain Joel Pamphile scoring an unbeaten 48 with four sixes and one four. Mohammed took two for 27. Tonight’s final gets underway at 7.15 pm and there will be lots of giveaways and door prizes, as well as a “Bowling for Dollars” novelty during the break between innings.
