Dauntless Hero a big threat

THAT Dauntless Hero will be a big threat to the best in Saturday’s feature Santa Rosa Dash at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. The Dereck Joseph-owned four-year-old American-bred colt put down another pleasing gallop over 800 metres on Sunday morning, completed in the smart time of 46.45 seconds, and appeared to be able to go much quicker at the end if allowed. With just a penny-stamp 47 kilos in the “big race,” this son of Diligence/Treasure Always who seems to be coming to hand now, looks sure to go close. Another of the entrants in this 1200 metres feature to catch the eye was Invincibility, who had the better of stablemate Twice Infallible in an 800 metres spin in 47.08 seconds.

But Sugar Mike showed he will not be easily beaten despite having to tote 60.5 kilos in the race, as he was seen relishing the sloppy track conditions in a 600 metres gallop timed in 37.77 seconds, going about his work very easily. Tactical Bid skipped through the slop in 36.16 seconds for 600 metres, but Jamaican-bred Francesca  was best on the clock over the trip, recording a 35.59. Star of the show yesterday morning was the Glenn Mendez pair of Second Chances and You’ve Got Mail who galloped together over 600 metres in an ecellent 35.45 seconds, while Fabulous Risk and Millenium Reign clocked 36.50 for the same trip. Top Of The Class looked ready in an effortless run over 800 metres in 48.15 seconds, following his good run on Sunday over 1000 metres timed in 1:04.73 seconds. Newcomer Ghost Meadow was all over Lady Rossie over 1000 metres in a fast 1:01.17 seconds.
