W Connection win and lose Pro League finals

CL FINANCIAL San Juan Jabloteh captured the Under-14 knockout title while W Connection retained their Under-16 crown in their respective finals at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima on Saturday. Franz Husbands scored a pair, in the fifth and 60th minutes, while Marvin Baptiste found the back of the net in the 56th as Jabloteh took care of Connection 3-0 in the Under-14 decider. Then the “Savonetta lads” cruised past Starworld Strikers 5-1 in the Under-16 final.Keron Garib put Connection ahead after seven minutes of play with Matthew Bartholomew making it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime, collecting a defence-splitting pass from Bevon Bass in the middle and, on the run, shooting past Starworld goalkeeper Curtis Julien.

The prolific Aaron Downing got Connection’s third in the 46th, tapping home past Julien after he received a left-side pass from Garib while Bartholomew got his second item in the 51st. Akeem Marshall rifled his 25-metre left-footed freekick past the pint-sized Connection goalie Denzil Richardson in the 57th minute but Connection sealed the win in the 85th minute. Downing, free as a bird on the right, was sent clear by substitute Kerron Smith and drilled his low right-footed drive past the hapless Richardson.
