Starworld reclaim lead after 7-0 win

STARWORLD Strikers reclaimed the lead in the T&T Pro League after a 7-0 mauling of South West Drillers at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, yesterday. And the Starworld outfit was able to take pole position atop the eight-team standings after joint overnight leaders North East Stars and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh were both held to drawn results by W Connection and Defence Force respectively. North East and Connection battled to a goalless stalemate at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, while Jabloteh got a last minute equaliser from national captain Angus Eve to tie 2-2 against the Army-Coast Guard combination at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

At Marabella, strikers Peter Prosper (42nd and 43rd minutes) and Randolph Jerome (54th and 72nd) had two goals apiece for Starworld after Drillers conceded an own goal in the seventh. Midfielders Linsie Sherwood (71st) and Lyndon “Chubby” Andrews got one goal each for Starworld, who earned their sixth win of the season. National Under-23 midfielder Michael Celestine put Jabloteh in front after 27 minutes before the prolific Kevon Carter got two goals in quick succession for Defence Force. In the 68th, he intercepted a loose ball and shot past Jabloteh’s goalkeeper Daurance Williams and, six minutes later, he beat the offside trap and sent a low left footer past the keeper. But, with a man advantage after Kurt Williams received his second yellow card in the 83rd, Eve headed home a Kerry Baptiste corner to earn a measure of respectability for Jabloteh.
