Republic Bank back junior golfers
For the fourth year running, Republic Bank are sponsoring the Trinidad and Tobago Junior Golf Team in their bid to win a third Caribbean Junior Golf Champion-ships title. This year’s tournament will be held in St Croix on July 8 and 9. Republic Bank have donated $80,000 to outfit the team with Titleist uniforms, including shirts, pants, bags, hats, gloves and golf bags among other necessary equipment.
In a statement issued by the bank, Republic’s Group Corporate Comm-unications Manager, Anna-Maria Garcia Brooks said: “Republic Bank is happy to offer continued support to the development of junior golf in Trinidad and Tobago. We are the leaders of junior golf sponsorship in the region and we believe that there is an abundance of talent in these young golfers. We are laying the foundation for even greater success in the future and wish them luck in the tournament.” This sponsorship is part of Republic Bank’s “Power to Make a Difference” programme, which commits $40 million to various community initiatives and focuses on the development of youth through sporting and educational initiatives over the next five years.
Republic’s involvement in junior golf also includes sponsorship of the Trinidad and Tobago Junior Golf Open and junior golf clinics at the Chaguaramas Golf Course throughout the year. Captained by Shane Costelloe, the national team comprises 14 golfers and one reserve. Many of the players have previously represented Trinidad and Tobago at international tournaments, including championships at the senior level. Thirteen-year-old, Ben Martin has just made history by being the youngest player named to the T&T Hoerman Cup squad.The team departs on July 4 for St Croix.
