Fast Company ready for ‘Midsummer’

FAST COMPANY signalled that he would be a force to be reckoned with in Saturday’s CLICO Midsummer Classic with a compelling  display of both speed and stamina on the exercise course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday. The gelded son of Freshly Squeezed/Afternoon Delight who finished fourth, six lengths adrift of  Mucho Tempo in the Union Park Turf Club Guineas on Arrival Day, promised to go closer in the second leg of the triple crown, with his run over 1400 metres in 1:30.84 seconds.

The Pierpont Scott-owned colt to be partnered by champion jockey Brian Harding in the 1900 metres event started his breeze at a brisk canter and when he accelerated, maintained a steady clip throughout the spin to brighten up the morning in which trainers seemed to concentrate on their juvenile stock. Top Of The Class and Moulin Rouge were also among those to show some sting in their preparatory gallops yesterday. Trainer Glenn Mendez triple crown winner, who was a late withdrawal from  the World Derby Allowance race on Saturday last, stretched his legs over 1200 metres in 1:19.74 seconds with apprentice Gary Laban aboard, and Moulin Rouge went handily under Nobel Abrego over 800 metres in 53.43 seconds.

Following are gallops recorded yesterday: 400 METRES: Brilliant Star - 29.99, pacing; Ex Bob’s Passion - 29.94, pacing; Lady Rossie - 29.98, pacing.
600 METRES: Peace Majesty - 44.95, pacing; Tipperary - 44.91, pacing.
800 METRES: Moulin Rouge - 53.43, handily.
1000 METRES: Care Free - 1:14.95, pacing.
1200 METRES: Top Of  The Class - 1:19.74, easy.
1400 METRES: Fast Company - 1:30.84, good.
