We need underground police

THE EDITOR: The population of this country needs to come to the reality that the criminals are getting smarter and bolder than all of us and the Police. If four security guards could conspire to get a passenger off a plane, get him into a men’s room and rob him big and bold, then we have to say to ourselves, we need to get a reality check.

I have my own solution to the crime, while the wrangling of the government and Opposition goes on with the Police Reform Bills.
We need:
1) A dependable, resourceful, absolute, operational underground police service, who can get their ears to the ground and counteract any criminal activities being formulated.
2) To weed out all those “bad apples” in the Police Service, eg those who are paid by drug pushers to carry out their illegal activities without interference.
3) The wheels of justice moving more swiftly for those accused and convicted for serious offenses like, kidnapping, murder, rape, grievous bodily harm and domestic violence. Stiffer penalties need to be instituted.

It is time for all of us to stop burying our heads in the sand. The criminals go to bars to plan their strategy because they know that if they do it in their homes, family members or neighbours may be listening. So I fortify my conviction that we need to get more realistic and formidable in the fight against crime as it stands today and send a message that some of the law- abiding citizens are not so stupid.
