N/East crush Tobago 13-1
NORTH EAST Stars reclaimed the lead in the T&T Pro League in convincing fashion on Wednesday, after they handed Tobago United a 13-1 battering at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. National striker Jerren Nixon continued with his goalscoring exploits, as he found the back of the net five times — in the 18th, 30th, 34th, 39th and 77th. The Guyanese duo of defender Howard Lowe and midfielder Kayode McKinnon also netted a pair apiece; Lowe scored in the third and 65th minutes while McKinnon struck in the 71st and 76th. Also contributing to North East’s one-sided result were Simeon Augustus (eighth), Anthony Wolfe (38th), Carey Harris (55th) and Davidson Neptune (85th); with Dwayne Jack hitting the consolation strike for the hosts in the 29th.
Overnight leaders Starworld Strikers slipped down the standings after they suffered a 3-0 defeat against CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Trinidad and Tobago captain Angus Eve got his second goal in successive matches, in the 87th, after Jabloteh stunned the hosts with early strikes from Keyeno Thomas, in the seventh, and midfielder Michael Celestine in the 15th. W Connection also made the best use of their opposition territory, when they slammed Defence Force 5-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Jermaine Hue, one of five Jamaicans in the Connection line-up, opened the scoring in the first minute while striker Jason Cudjoe widened the gap in the fifth.
Another Jamaican Robert Scarlett got the third goal in the 18th before substitute midfielder Jerwyn Balthazar pulled back one for the Army-Coast Guard combination in the 42nd. Connection will get two second-half strikes, from Andre Toussaint in the 47th and a Scarlett freekick in the 68th to seal the win. Arima/Morvant Fire got a 75th minute winner from Darryl Toussaint as they squeezed past South West Drillers 2-1 at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground. Urban Seales had given Drillers’ a dream start when he scored after 18 minutes before midfielder Randy Ramcharan equalised in the 40th.
