Toyota $50,000 for hockey league
TOYOTA Trinidad and Tobago Limited has contributed $50,000 to the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board (TTHB) for current 2004 season. Making this announcement on Friday was Nicholas McDonald, Sales and Marketing Manager of Toyota, at a press briefing held at the Toyota compound in Barataria. McDonald noted that the financial input will last for the rest of the year and it is part of Toyota’s continued support to sport in Trinidad and Tobago.
In her feature address, TTHB president Maureen Craig-Rousseau expressed her gratitude to the automobile firm “for the confidence shown in the sport through this timely sponsorship.” “This sponsorship of the 2004 league will add much needed professionalism to the functioning of our sport,” she added. Regarding the astro-turf at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua, Craig-Rousseau revealed that the TTHB have been holding discussions with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs to replace the surface, with the Minister Roger Boynes noting that there was a provision in the 2004 budget for a new turf. Craig-Rousseau stated that her organisation will be spreading the sport to both primary and secondary schools, especially institutions in rural areas in Trinidad.
