TT footballers, Playboyz off to Thailand

TRINIDAD and Tobago footballers accompanied by Angostura Woodbrook Playboyz Steel Orchestra, leave for Bangkok, via London today, for two international friendlies against Thailand and South Korea. First the local team play the Thais on Saturday, and travel to Seoul to face the Koreans on July 14. The Trinidadians are preparing for the start of their  CONCACAF Zone World Cup Germany 2006 against St Vincent in Kingstown on August 18.

The Playboyz will play the Korea Republic and Thailand national anthems and perform other traditional Korean tunes during the matches. Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation special adviser who has contracted the steelband to travel with the national team, said he had a request from the Korean Football Association for them to perform Korean tunes, one of which is a popular track called “Arirang”. And Korea FA international relations bureau man Joon Seok Oh, sent the musical score to the band for them to practice. But national coach Bertille St Clair made it clear that his team will be focusing on the football, and said only matches against teams ranked higher than his will benefit the team. The touring party is: Stern John, Jason Scotland, Brent Sancho, Gary Glasgow, Arnold Dwarika, Silvio Spann, Dennis Lawrence, Brent Rahim, Anthony Rougier, Kenwyne Jones, Scott Sealy, Angus Eve (capt), Duarance Williams, Kelvin Jack, Keyeno Thomas, Kerry Baptiste, Marlon Rojas,  Derek King, Densil Theobald.
