Tunapuna family begs for return of poor son
A Tunapuna family has joined the growing list of a number of families calling for the return of their offspring. Dominic Kalloo, 19, a small businessman of First Trace, Maingot Road in Tunapuna, has become TT’s latest kidnap victim. According to reports, Kalloo, who owns a small electrical and plumbing establishment at McInroy Street in Curepe left his home around 7.30 am on Tuesday to go to work. Around 8.30 that night his grandmother received a call from a man who claimed “they” had him in their custody and wanted $1 million for his safe return. Dominic was also allowed to speak on the phone and told his grandmother that he was being held and she should pay the ransom. Since then the family has not received any further communication from the abductors.
However, Persad Kalloo, Dominic’s father, who lives a short distance from his son’s business place with his wife Sharmaine, claimed that it was surely a case of “mistaken identity” and called for the release of his son. “My son, who opened the business two months ago is up to his neck in debts, and has no money. “He is yet to pay his landlord and creditors since he opened business. It was I who used the little money I collected from my lawn-cutting and transport business to buy some items for him to open his shop.
“I myself am up to my neck in debts, and contrary to a radio announcement, my wife is a housewife who is now starting a catering business; she has no established business.” Dominic, a graduate of Hillview College, dropped out of university and after refusing to join his family’s landscaping business, decided to open his own business two months ago. “If they call for $50 ransom I cannot pay. Please, release my son!” Dominic’s father begged. Kalloo, an asthma patient, is the fifth unsolved kidnapping. The others are Darryl Chootoo, Marc Prescott, Vijay Persad and Rodney Deosaran.
