Joe Public hammer Moruga in Super League
THE “Eastern Lions” Joe Public continued their unbeaten start to the National Super League with a 6-0 thrashing of Moruga at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. In-form striker Roen Nelson led the way with a beaver-trick on Friday night, scoring goals in the 23rd, 50th, 60th and 80th, while Nigel Hart 36th and Hollis Brown 85th got one apiece for the league-leaders. L-Sporto Crab Connection remained in second spot following a 3-1 win over Harvard at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Kirston Graham in the 25th, Marvin Oliver 34th and Marlon Warner 39th were on target for “Crabs”, while Damian Fraser got an 88th minute consolation for Harvard. WASA Clean & White and Carib played to an exciting 3-3 draw at the WASA Ground, St Joseph.
Darren Modeste put WASA ahead in the 33rd before their neighbours surged ahead with a double from Clyde Gill, in the 49th and 64th. There was more drama to come as WASA reclaimed the lead with goals from Kirth Hutchings (65th) and Kien Hernandez (76th) before Aaron Raper netted the equaliser for the Carib lads in the 85th. Former national youth team golfer-turned-footballer Kareem Young notched a hattrick, in the 23rd, 32nd and 73rd minutes, while Ainsley Joyeau scored in the 26th, as Maraval Youth Academy trounced Club Sando 4-1 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Anthony Fongenie was the lone goal-getter for the Southerners in the 43rd.
At Brechin Castle in Couva, Medianet East San Juan United, with goals from Michael Waldron (13th) and Dexter Joslyn (63rd) got the better of Caroni by a 2-1 margin; Ahmed Mohammed scoring for Caroni in the 55th. A Tobago double-header was staged on Saturday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, with Superstar Rangers earning a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix. A penalty from Curtis Trim on the stroke of halftime put Phoenix ahead before ex-national Under-17 captain Josimar Belgrave got the equaliser in the 50th. And team captain Colin Roberts converted an 88t h minute freekick to secure full points for Rangers. The day’s other encounter saw Biwater Stokelyvale battling to a 1-1 draw against Police. As in the earlier game, Curt Danclair netted a halftime penalty but Kerron Phillips levelled the scores nine minutes from time.
