Cops search soldiers’ homes

The homes of seven soldiers have been searched by officers of the Anti-Crime Unit as investigations continue into the disappearance of a Galil assault rifle belonging to the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. All seven homes were searched between Wednesday and yesterday, and the seven soldiers remained in isolation at Camp Ogden pending the outcome of the probe. The weapon went missing on Tuesday after an inventory, and a search of Camp Ogden began within two hours. The search included checks on soldiers posted to Bravo Company.

Defence Force procedure was followed in the investigation process as the support of army intelligence was requested in the search for the missing Galil. The Galil, without ammunition, was entrusted to a private, who has already been questioned, and army intelligence officers requested that six others be kept in isolation. Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Ancil Antoine yesterday received a report on the status of the investigation. Colonel Maharaj is heading the probe.
