Hundreds brave rain for anti-crime rally

Hundreds gathered at Woodford Square in Port-of-Spain yesterday for the National Rally Against Crime, which was hosted by the Hindu Credit Union (HCU). The featured speakers at the rally included Seventh Day Adventist pastor, Clive Dottin; chairman of People Against Crime, Gordon James; president of the All Trinidad Sugar and General Workers’ Trade Union Rudranath Indarsingh; president of the University of the West Indies Guild of Students, Glenn Ramadharsingh and head of the Council of Elders of Laventille, Selwyn Sandy.

At the rally, persons of all races and ages, were unhindered by heavy rainfall which began half hour after the event’s 3 pm start. Several banners, national flags and balloons were waved accompanied by applause as HCU president Harry Harnarine took the microphone to address the crowd. “This is not a political rally, this is a rally of the courageous people in a time where people are afraid to leave their homes,” he said.
