Morvant residents blank PNM meeting

The majority of chairs at a PNM orientation session for residents of the Laventille East/Morvant constituency were left vacant, as only 20 persons showed up for the session. Laventille East/Morvant MP and Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, was carded to be at the session along with Minister of National Security, Martin Joseph, but their seats were among those left vacant. The session took place on Saturday afternoon in the hall of the Russell Latapy Secondary School in Morvant. The hall has seating accommodation for as many as 238 persons.

Regardless of the poor turnout, the session continued with an interactive discussion between former Mayor of Port-of-Spain, Steven Sergeant, and members of the small audience. Sergeant asked members of the audience why they wished to join the PNM and then offered convincing reassurance that they had made the best decision. “The PNM was the first ‘all-inclusive’ party as they were willing to accept members of all creeds and races into their ranks. This party seeks to deal with the social issues in each and every community,” declared Sergeant.
