Alcons dump ‘Lions’ from East FA
LAST season’s Eastern Football Association FA Trophy winners Joe Public were dumped out of this season’s competition by Malta Carib Alcons 2-0 at Maracas Recreation Ground. And the victory on Monday qualifies Alcons, making a return to EFA action after a two-year absence, for the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation national FA series. CJ Marcellin Jr and Keith Tyson grabbed the goals which ousted the “Eastern Lions”. Also among the four qualifiers from the EFA are newcomers Coast Guard, Falcon Crest and TSTT. The zone’s FA Trophy series continue today with TSTT meeting Alcons at St Augustine Senior Comprehensive Ground; and Falcon Crest taking on Coast Guard at Sosconosco in semi-final matches.
The final is scheduled for the Marvin Lee Stadium, Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya on August 14. Meanwhile, in a league match rescheduled from July 4, WASA Clean and White swamped Shoe Locker Young Hearts 5-0 at the WASA Ground, St Joseph. Joel Fraser got a double strike while Roston Haynes, Gailon Thomas and Sekou Cox scored the other goals for WASA who leap-frogged into second position just one point adrift of leaders TSTT with a match in hand. They have 10 points from four matches and a superior goal-difference over Falcon Crest.
