‘Hero’ gets a chance to star

Dauntless Hero gets another chance on Saturday to prove he is among the elite sprinters in training when lining up in the Allowance feature on the Arima Race Club Day 21 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. The Son of Diligence/Treasure Always created a favourable impression behind Invincibility in the Santa Rosa Dash Handicap last month. The four-year-old American bred showed blinding speed in the 1200 metres contest and lasted the trip to finish ahead of “Horse Of The Year” Sugar Mike. He is expected to be a leading candidate to open his winning account on Saturday in the seven-strong 1100 metres Turf contest.

But the speed-merchant debut assignment won’t be easy. Dauntless Hero was handed the top impost of 56.5 kilos for the event, in which Man Of Class and Twice Infallible, whom he trailed in behind prior to last month’s sterling performance, are also top contenders. Mucho Tempo is set to make an appearance on the 10-race card, his first since poor showing in the Clico Midsummer Classic on July 3. The Union Park Turf Club Guineas Trophy winner who was reported to have bled in the event will attempt to pick back up the winning thread over 1300 metres. Champion jockey Brian Harding replaces Rajpaul Rajkumar on the Harriram Gobin inmate. But Rajkumar, who piloted Mucho Tempo in both classics could have the last laugh, as he will have the leg up on Fast Company, whom Harding rode to a fourth placed finish in the Guineas and fifth in the Midsummer Classic.
