TECU $$ for national junior tennis at P-a-P

THIS year’s National Junior Tennis Tournament have found a sponsor. TECU Credit Union Co-operative Society have decided to sponsor the series scheduled to serve off at Petrotrin Pointe-a-Pierre tennis courts today and continues until July 31. According to TECU manager Robert Andrews, the sponsorship was another “first” for the credit union and represented another tangible example of their support for the development of the nation’s youth. The sponsorship in the sum of $15,000 will see the top junior tennis players in action as they vie for the big prizes and trophies. And a Trinidad and Tobago Tennis Association official thanked the credit union for their sponsorship at a recent news conference  at TECU’s Marabella offices. President of the TECU Credit Union, Ronnie Jones will serve the first ball today at 9 am.


A total of 62 junior tennis players from South Trinidad have been registered to compete in six age groups. National Open doubles champs Shennelle Mohammed and Carlista Mohammed (no relation) are seeded Number One and No Two in the Girls Under-18 singles while the top two seeds among the Under-18 boys are Kino Francis and Arvinda Maharaj. Keen competition is also expected in the Under-14, Novices Under-12 and Under-14 girls and boys divisions. Entries for the Under-18 boys and girls and the Under-14 doubles divisions close tomorrow. Players are asked to arrive at the clay courts at 9 am today for the opening ceremony, to register and to receive a sponsors’ T-shirt.

9 am-Shane Lutchman vs Graeme Jones, Adrian Browne vs John Lutchman, Brent king vs Kyle Chang ; 10am — Mark Balgobin vs Stefan King, Simone Rahaman vs Navia Deonarine, Simone Charles vs Sarah Hosein; 11 am — Akiela James vs Angelique Roopchand, Keenel Teesdale vs Makini McGuire.
Competition in the novices Under-12 and Under-14 girls will also begin today.
