Do not discard life

The  Editor: The slaughter of the innocents continues in the 21st century with the legislation and attempted legislation of abortion in countries throughout the world. We in Trinidad and Tobago should not adopt foreign values to continue this practice. “Roe vs Wade” and “Doe vs. Balton” US Supreme Court Ruling in the ’70s, should not apply in our isles under the sun. Incidentally the “Roe” of “Roe vs Wade” was Norma Mc Corvey” and the “Doe” of “Doe vs Balton” was Sandra Cano, both are now converts to the pro-life cause! (see www.abortionfacts.com).

It is interesting to note that once laws are made they are difficult to reverse without other Supreme Court decisions. However, laws do not always reflect values unless they are Biblically based. If we do not have an overall absolute law that governs our actions as a society, then these laws will be subject to the whims and fancies of the judge of the day. Giving people rights to murder unborn children while thousands stand in line waiting for opportunities to adopt is a highly irregular practice, condoned by those legal practitioners who claim to protect our values. The problem is they protect the values of the rich minority who play with life at the expense of the disfranchised majority, that is, the rich can afford to have babies but encourage the poor and ignorant to kill theirs — less stress on the economy, less population growth.

Don’t we Trinidadians and Tobagonians have a say in our own rights? Must we adopt foreign policies to rule our land? While we do not believe in a Privy Council to second guess our country’s legal decisions, we do believe in the Judeo-Christian Biblical values of accountability before God and man and the right to life, even that of the unborn who is left without a choice as the right of choice is given to the mother alone. In New York one tenth of our population dies each year, that is 140,000 abortions. Should we adopt the values of a people who deal so casually and recklessly with life? Do you know the US Supreme Court had ruled that abortion is legal for any reason, to the day of birth?

The United States of America is a dying nation. Let us of Trinidad and Tobago seek to live on forever. Any choice you make legal or illegal, moral or immoral, has its consequences — what goes up must come down and every action has a reaction. Some choices will have consequences that will impact a nation or society for decades. Abortion is murder. Let us as a people not make it legal.  Galatians chapter 6 verse 7 says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man (nation) sows, that he will also reap.”  As a Trini we should learn to love life and embrace it, not discard it!
