Indiscipline in cricket mirrors our society
THE EDITOR: It is most disconcerting to see the way that TTT covers cricket. I have written previously about this subject. Things got a little better but have reverted after the first few days of the first Test. During the lunch break on the first day and today as well, Channel 4 TV in the UK saw it fit to telecast interviews with Lance Gibbes and Sir Garfield Sobers but did TTT allow us the benefit of seeing these two WI greats and hear what they had to say? of course not! We had to endure “fit for life.” The English are interested in our greats but we really do not care, how are we to return to the glory days if the media do not help?
Dealing with this question, I might add that the lack of discipline and drive and desire to work hard to improve in the WI team merely mirrors the society in which we live, right across the caribbean. Just look at the way the English tailenders make us fight for their wicket. No respect for authority, a complete lack of discipline and a desire to subvert, rather than obey, the laws of our respective countries. All this starts right at the top, from the leaders in Government and the Opposition, to the heads of the unions and the public service. We will never achieve first world status until we deal with and correct these ills.
