Eastern Lions maul Lawmen 5-1

JOE PUBLIC maintained their superiority over the rest in the National Super League after a 5-1 thrashing of Police in the second match of Friday’s double-header, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. In the evening’s earlier fixture, Superstar Rangers held off a late surge from Club Sando to prevail 3-2. After a goalless first half, the “Eastern Lions” Joe Public got the scoreboard going through Jamaican striker Roen Nelson in the 48th minute. Carlington Smith widened the lead in the 63rd before Nigel Hart added further misery to the lawmen with a quick double, in the 67th and 73rd minutes.

Nelson got his second in the 76th while Sean McClashie netted Police’s consolation item four minutes from full time. Rangers held a comfortable 2-0 lead after two goals in the space of three minutes from Don Morris (25th) and Colin Roberts (28th) before Romeo Williams reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 65th. Josimar Belgrave restored Rangers’ two-goal lead in the 79th but Sando’s Marlon Lewis gave Rangers a scare when he found the back of the net in the 86th; which proved to be a little too late for the hosts. Unlike Rangers, L Sporto Crab Connection let a two-goal lead slip as they were held to a 3-3 draw by lowly Caroni at Brechin Castle, Couva.

Marlon Warner put “the Crabs” ahead after seven minutes before Randy Weston equalised in the 18th. Crab regained the lead courtesy Jason Sampson in the 30th, with Warner netting his second in the 35th. But Kyle Cupid will lead a Caroni revival, with goals in the 70th and 83rd to ensure that both teams got a share of the points. Stephen Gray’s third minute goal was enough to give Maraval Youth Academy a 1-0 win over Moruga at the Otis Memorial Park, Moruga while Allan Sorzano got the winner, in the 68th, as Medianet East San Juan United edged WASA Clean & White 1-0 at the WASA Ground, St Joseph.
