$40,000 bail for officer held with weed in prison
A prison officer yesterday appeared before an Arima magistrate charged with possession of marijuana. Reports state that about 8:30 Monday night, 31-year-old Kerwin Wright of Phase 1 La Horquetta was on duty at the Golden Grove Prison, when a superintendent observed an unusual bulge in the pocket of his uniform. On searching the officer, the senior official found the illegal substance. The prison officer was taken to the Arouca Police Station where he was charged by acting Cpl Jobe for having 90 grammes of marijuana. When the officer appeared before Arima magistrate Gail Gonzales in the Arima Second Court, he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was then granted bail in the sum of $40,000. The matter was adjourned to August 10.
