Magistrate to rule on no-case submission
SENIOR Magistrate Ejenny Espinet will on August 12 rule on a no-case submission in the preliminary inquiry in the Miss Universe fraud case. Gina Welsh, of Gittens Road in Glencoe, is before Senior Magistrate Espinet in the Port-of-Spain First Magistrates’ Court charged with defrauding the Pageant Company of $24,584.70 when Trinidad and Tobago hosted the Miss Universe Pageant in 1999. Welsh was marketing manager of the Pageant Company when the alleged offence was committed. The charge was laid by Supt Glenroy Woodley of the Fraud Squad. When the inquiry continued yesterday, Welsh’s attorney Gillian Lucky indicated that all submissions in the case were before the magistrate. Magistrate Espinet then stated that she would rule on the submissions, which were made in writing, when the case resumes on August 12. State attorney Shoba Jamunar represents the State.
