Samaroo is Central top player

ALLROUNDER Rishi Samaroo was voted “Player of the Year” in the Pro Sports Division I at the 2004 Central Zone prize distribution ceremony at Presentation College, Chaguanas, on Saturday night. Samaroo of Spoilers Cricket Club in the first division of the Central Zone, scored 404 runs and took 38 wickets. For his exploits, he was given the most prestigious award in the Zone at Saturday night’s function. West Indies Player Association (WIPA) president Dinanath Ramnarine delivered the feature address and said that in order for the rot that has set in the game to stop, the administration must be improved.

His ideas were echoed by Central Zone official Lalman Kowlessar who also addressed the large gathering. The zone however celebrated the many bright spots during the season, the brightest of which was Ravi Rampaul’s continued presence on the West Indies senior cricket team. Another player from the zone, Dinesh Ramdin, skippered the West Indies Under-19 team, runners-up in the ICC Youth World Cup in Bangladesh. The Zonal teams also performed creditably with the Under-15s winning the British Gas title while Presentation College took the PowerGen Secondary School crown.
