Golfers 3rd in Hoerman Cup
TRINIDAD AND Tobago’s senior men golfers finished third in the Hoerman Cup category as the 48th Caribbean Senior Amateur Golf Championships ended at the Lucayan Golf and Country Club, Freeport, Bahamas yesterday. The TT quartet of Carlos “Sexy” Baynes, Dion Gonsalves as well as teenagers Ben Martin and Simon Merry combined for a score of 232 to finish on 904. Baynes and Gonsalves each carded 77 with Martin shooting 78 and Merry 79.
As expected Barbados led from start to finish to claim the Hoerman Cup with 884 with Puerto Rico next on 893. The super-seniors pair of Ashraph Ali and Patrick Suraj could not maintain their overnight lead, as they ended as the runners-up behind Puerto Rico for the Higgs and Higgs Trophy. The Puerto Ricans ended with 280, five ahead of TT (who made 74 yesterday) with hosts Bahamas third with 290. Bahamas walked away with the George Teale Trophy for women after compiling 627 over the four days, with Puerto Rico (644) and Jamaica (645) trailing. The TT trio of Diana Torry (80), Tracey Clarke (81) and Michelle Torry (84) shot 161 for a fourth place finish with 654. And, in the seniors category, the TT duo of Raymond Roberts and Barry Ferdinand ended in fifth position with 292 after they carded 74 yesterday. Puerto Rico and Cayman Islands were joint winners of the Francis, Steele-Perkins Cup with 286, with Bahamas and Dominican Republic sharing third position with 290.
