‘Boboy’s’ juveniles ready to ‘lime’

TRAINER Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj’s juveniles are firing on all cylinders and could well be expected to be among the market leaders in the first event for the “babes” on the Arima Race Club “Evening Lime” at Santa Rosa Park on Friday. Maharaj brought his two-year-olds to the fore early last year and dominated the early events. And from what was seen on the exercise course at Arima yesterday morning, was clear that he has his string very forward and has the same plans of earning early purses before the better-bred horses, with classic aspirations, make appearances.

Two of his “babes” to have acquired starter certificate last week showed they were ready for their baptism of fire out of the boxes. A daughter of Bob’s Passion and a colt bred to Samana were the first to make an impression from the gates, showing good speed between the 1200 and 800 metres markers before easing down. The Bob’s Passion offspring showed blinding early speed and had the better of the gallop, covering the trip in a spirited 22.69 seconds, with her stablemate who was slower into stride recording 24.06. After they returned to the paddock another member from the barn famous for their green and white colours came out to light up the 600 metres.

The unnamed son of Dormello opened the gates like a seasoned campaigner and got down to business flashing his speed between the 1200 and 600 metres points in 35.50 seconds. Arts And Lovers and Wise Decision who are expected to make their debut in the 900 metres event, chose to take things easy. The Harold Chadee-trained pair who also has good clockings against their names previously, paced 800 metres in 56.05 seconds. Miss Lover Lover who seemed to have lost her way recently gave clockers a reminder, sprinting the last 800 metres of the course in 48.13 seconds with apprentice Gary Laban aboard. Naturelly Classy who had been working on the outer rails last week was another to have caught the eye. The Stephen Jardim trained was full of life over the same acreage in 50.08 seconds.
