President Richards expresses outrage over cop’s killing

PRESIDENT GEORGE Maxwell Richards has expressed outrage at the killing of Acting Inspector Edward Williams, bodyguard to former President Arthur NR Robinson, on Tuesday night. Williams was gunned down on Smart Street, St Augustine, while he was waiting on Robinson outside a dinner party at the home of Marjorie Thorpe, Dean of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine. In a statement yesterday, President Richards said Williams was assigned to the Office of the President for several months when he first entered office.

The President said: “I am deeply saddened by this event. It was totally senseless and I hope that no effort will be spared to apprehend the persons responsible.” President Richards has sent a letter of condolence to the widow and family of the late Acting Inspector Williams. He also spoke with former President Robinson by telephone about the tragic event and conveyed his sympathy and concern during the conversation.
