Mud slides into Romeo’s bedroom
A mudslide has wreaked havoc through the home of Randy Romeo, a martial arts instructor who has been living at Upper Belle Eau Road in Belmont for the past three years. Romeo at the time was working in Arima, when a relative contacted him, telling him that his house was destroyed. The landslide occurred during Wednesday’s heavy torrential rain in Port-of-Spain. The rains eroded the soil at the back of Romeo’s home, tearing down the wall of his bedroom. “It is only a matter of time before the entire roof and floor collapse,” said Romeo, who was busy shovelling the mud, while awaiting the Port-of-Spain City Corporation to respond to his plight.
The mud completely buried Romeo’s bed, money and other belongings, leaving him with no place to go. “ I am very upset with the City Corporation. They informed me that my house is on the wrong side of the road, so they are unable to assist,” said Romeo, who also dismissed their excuses of not having enough staff or equipment to deal with the situation. Romeo was then told to contact the Laventille Regional Corporation, which responded after a long period of time. Romeo has yet to assess the cost of damages to his home.
