Slain maxi taxi driver laid to rest

Maxi Taxi drivers are calling on the relevant authorities to have more lights placed at Barcaday and Red Hill in D’Abadie as this is the place where most of the maxi taxi drivers are held up. Melvin Boyce, representative of the Maxi Taxi Assocation,  made this appeal at the funeral service of their colleague Winston Monderoy, who was robbed and shot to death by bandits on August 6, 2004. He said that the maxi taxi drivers are going to stop operating when school reopens if the Minister of Works and Transport Franklyn Khan fails to address some of the problems and fears under which these drivers operate on a daily basis.

He said police, in addition to asking drivers for their drivers’ permits and certificate of insurances should check all passengers including the female passengers who are, on most occasions, left out in their checks. Monderoy was described by all his colleagues as a regular and friendly person to both the passengers and his colleagues. Monderoy was a loving father to his children and wife, said his brother, Franklyn Monderoy. In his eulogy he said Winston had resigned from his teaching position to ply his maxi taxi as he preferred to earn his money on a daily basis, and was interested in being an asset to the travelling public, which he did with pride until his untimely death. He was laid to rest at the Valencia Cemetery after a funeral service conducted by Pastor Grant at the Valencia Evangelical Church.
