Save me from the bells

THE EDITOR: I was delighted not to be rudely awakened for the past few mornings by the cacophonous sound of bells emanating from a church situated on the Morne Coco Road. Fortunately, I do not live too close to the church but the insensitive and reckless decision made to install this electronic system leaves me to wonder if the relevant person or persons gave thought as to how he (or she) would like to be awakened at 5.45 am each morning with a speaker box blasting noise outside their bedroom or that of their ailing parents.

I pity the residents of Goodwood Gardens and immediate areas and especially the infirm at the geriatric home at the back of the church, they must be very good “Christians” to put up with this, not only at 5.45 am but at 8 pm when again some boisterous sound is meted out. Is there not some law covering noise pollution? I wonder if the EMA would be kind enough to visit this church and measure the volume of sound to determine if the decibel level is acceptable especially at 5.45 am in the morning, if heaven forbid, this system is restored, or is it that the church is sacrosanct? It appears that the recent thunderstorm knocked out the electronic system. Thank you Jesus!
