Police have themselves to blame

THE EDITOR: It is a burning shame that public officers and officials seem dumb to the grief and plight of the citizenry in general. Police officers, to put it bluntly, do not seem to care about anyone in grief or distress. They are emotionless and abusive to complainants. It was not surprising to hear that police officers did not investigate a distress call because it was not in their area. The general population is not surprised as we always thought that was the norm after visiting a police station.

The police are the ones to blame for the citizenry having no respect or confidence in them. The police know the criminals, drug dens, thieves, rapists and any other civil elements in society and do absolutely nothing but complain about insufficient vehicles, weapons, staff and low salary. Just recently an energetic, ambitious loving and respectable young man was mercilessly ‘murdered’ by a heartless and irresponsible maxi taxi driver operating what can only be described as a lethal weapon. Like police officers, maxi taxi drivers feel that they are a law unto themselves.

They have no regard for anyone in this world but the almighty dollar. What is worse, after the young man’s life was snuffed out by the heartless buffoon, the police at the station were as heartless to the bereaved family making enquiries after the murderous act. Obvious basic information was not recorded by the police at the crime scene from the maxi driver such as his vehicle insurance company’s name. If that is not ineptitude to the maximum then it is collusion between the police and those who take the life of others or a classic display of heartlessness. There is nothing the police or maxi drivers can do to change the views of those who have suffered at their hands.
