Eastern Lions roar at top of Super League
JAMAICAN STRIKER Roen Nelson scored twice and Trinidad and Tobago defender Derek King added one to give National Super League leaders, “Eastern Lions” Joe Public a 3-0 win over Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix at Shaw Park, Scarborough on Saturday. Nelson put the runaway leaders ahead in the 25th and doubled his tally in the 56th with team captain King completing the scoring in the 74th. L-Sporto Crab Connection suffered a major slip-up on Friday with a 2-1 loss to Maraval Youth Academy in the second match of a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Maraval took the lead after 11 minutes through Clinton Corbin, who placed his left-footer beyond the reach of Crabs goalkeeper Clevion Frederick after receiving a long ball from Jason Cooper on the right flank.
Crabs seemed complacent on the night, and they went further behind when Sherwin Waldron tapped in a rebound past Frederick in the 24th. Ace striker Marlon Warner, who started the match on the substitutes’ bench, pulled back one for Crabs in the 74th but it was a little too late for the defending champs. Jason Boodram notched a hat-trick to give Police a comfortable 6-0 triumph over Club Sando at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Friday. Boodram got his name on the scoresheet in the fifth, 21st and 63rd minutes. Police also got a goal apiece from Sean McClashie in the 28th, Curt Danclair in the 33rd and former Trinidad and Tobago striker Dexter Cyrus in the 40th.
