Teen drowns at Mayaro

An evening beach lime at Mayaro turned to tragedy for a Pleasantville, San Fernando family on Sunday when one member drowned. According to reports, Cardel Gidharrie, 16, of Mootoo Lands was swimming about 100 feet from the shore at Church Road, Mayaro around 5.30 pm, when he experienced difficulties. He called out to his family on the shore and with the lifeguards, they tried unsuccessfully to rescue him. Police, family, friends and lifeguards returned to the beach yesterday in search of the body, but their efforts were futile. Mayaro police are investigating.
