Joe Public continue to dominate

JOE PUBLIC continued to set the pace on Tuesday in the National Super League with a 3-1 triumph over Superstar Rangers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Garvin McKenna put the “ Eastern Lions” ahead in the fifth minute while the prolific Roen Nelson added a pair —  in the 14th and 75th minutes; with Kerwin Cooper pulling back one for Rangers in the 85th. And reigning champs L-Sporto Crab Connection suffered their second 2-1 defeat in as many matches, this time at the hands of the struggling Medianet East San Juan United at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground. Wendell Isaac netted twice in the space of three minutes —  33rd and 35th —  while Michael Alexis got the lone item for Crabs in the 53rd.

Police maintained their rich form with a 3-0 whipping of Harvard at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva with goals from ex-national striker Dexter Cyrus in the 22nd minute, Jason Boodram in the 46th and Curt Danclair four minutes from time. Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix were in a no-nonsense mood on the day, inflicting a 5-2 beating on Carib in the first match of a double-header at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago. Kevin Keith gave Phoenix a 16th minute lead, with Trevor Henry widening the advantage in the 23rd. Jellineau Gill reduced the deficit in the 28th minute before Dominique Kerr took over, as he notched a hat-trick in the 38th, 54th and 64th minutes. Aaron Raper’s 90th minute effort was little consolation for Carib, who remain rooted at the bottom of the 14-team standings.

In the other match at the sister isle, Biwater Stokelyvale and Maraval Youth Academy battled to a 1-1 draw, with Curtis Job scoring for Stokelyvale after two minutes of play before Kefim De Freitas equalised for Maraval in the 44th. One match would be contested today, an all-Tobago affair between Stokelyvale and Phoenix at the Dwight Yorke Stadium from 7 pm. Tomorrow, Joe Public will be seeking another three points when they host WASA Clean and White at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna at 7 o’clock. In other matches tomorrow, from 4 pm, Police meet Carib at the Ato Boldon Stadium; Caroni hosts Maraval Youth Academy at Brechin Castle, Couva; Crabs face off against Club Sando at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima; Medianet will oppose Moruga at Mt Hope while Harvard meet neighbours Superstar Rangers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
