Soldier charged with wounding

A 29-year-old soldier of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force was yesterday arrested  and charged with the assault of a 32-year-old Chase Village man. Reports revealed that around 9.30 pm on Wednesday, Michael Edwards, 32, was at Busy Corner in Chaguanas, when he observed a close friend in the company of a man. Edwards and the man began arguing and a struggle ensued.


Edwards was stabbed in the neck, head and left hand and was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Centre. He was transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in critical condition. A party of officers led by acting Sgt Ajith Persad, Cpl Aguilerra and PC Harvey investigated the incident and arrested the soldier at Main Road, Cunupia. He was charged with wounding with intent.
