JSC to meet CoP on recruitment, transfers
THIS week is expected to be a busy one for the Joint Select Committees (JSC), as at least two of them will be holding public meetings at the Parliament Chamber, Red House. On Wednesday the JSC will be meeting with officials of the Ministry of Public Utilities and the Environment, TTEC, WASA, SWMCOL and the National Social Development Programme (NSDP). The JSC is chaired by Independent Senator Parvatee Anmolsingh-Mahabir. The meeting is scheduled for 9.30 am.
Officials from the bodies will be questioned on their adminstration, the manner of the exercise of their powers, their methods of functioning and any criteria adopted by them in the exercise of their powers and functions. In the other meeting on Friday, the JSC chaired by Prof Ramesh Deosaran will meet with the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Commissioner of Police, to discuss the contents of the reports of the PSC for 2000 and 2001. The reports pertain to recruitment and appointments, promotion, performance appraisals, succession planning, discipline, transfers and acting appointments. The 2001 report was recently laid in Parliament.
That meeting is expected to begin at 10 am. Already the Deosaran-led JSC has met with members of the Teaching Service Commission, the Ministry of Education and Denominational School Boards. Two weeks ago the JSC chaired by Mary King grilled officials of the North-West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA). They are to meet again at a date to be announced.
