Call to remove WI selectors, Logie
TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board executive member Patrick Rampersad has called for the removal of the West Indies selection panel and coach Gus Logie. He made the call while delivering the feature address at a function hosted by Balmain Cricket Club on Saturday night. Rampersad said: “I think the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) should review the coaching position and bring in someone from outside the region to do the job. “We need someone who does not come from a Caribbean culture to deal with these players we have, so that they can have the right attitude to the work at hand.”
And he added: “The Board must be behind the coach 100 percent so that he can take charge of the team in a way he sees fit and a way that can bring positive results. “I am also of the view that the selectors should be removed and the coach should be given a more active role as a selector.” Rampersad further stated, “I am also calling on the WICB to launch an inquiry into the West Indies team, as their body language in England was not good at all. “For far too long the public has been unaware of what is really going on with the West Indies team.
“The Caribbean public must now demand more from the West Indies team as the players have failed to understand the pride and tradition of the West Indian people for West Indian cricket.” Rampersad also made a call to the businessmen of Trinidad and Tobago not to migrate or call for a state of emergency but stay and invest in sports as an alternate to crime. Sports Minister Roger Boynes made a call to the TTCB to form an alliance with his ministry, so that they could get a professional cricket league going in Trinidad and Tobago.
