Schools gear up for new term
THE new school year will begin on September 1 at the St Francois Girls’ College and the Bishop Anstey High School. It means that for the newcomers — the SEA students — several schools re-open today during which they will be put through an orientation exercise. The real school term begins in earnest on Wednesday, tomorrow being Indepen-dence holiday. In other instances, not all children will be returning to classes due to a number of incomplete renovations of their respective schools. A release from the Ministry of Education said the administration of St Francois Girls’ College, Belmont, is requesting that only the new intake of SEA students into Form One report for school 8.30 am today for an orientation exercise. All other students in forms Two to Upper Six are asked to report for classes on Wednesday September, 1 at 8 am.
The ministry said this arrangement would allow members of staff the necessary time to ensure that all systems are operational for the return of all students to the school on September 1. Teachers of the school were engaged in a training programme for the integration of computer technology into all aspects of the school curriculum last week. Students of Bishop Anstey High School are also advised that the school has been granted a Principal’s holiday today, and the school will therefore re-open on Wednesday, September 1 for all forms — One to Five and Upper Six. Form One students assigned to the Mucurapo Junior Secondary School, based on the SEA results, are advised that the school re-opens today on the shifts assigned, that is the 7.20 am and 12.20 pm shifts. The students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian over the age of 21. All Form Twos and Threes, however, are reminded to report for school on Wednesday, September 1, on their assigned shifts.
