Diego family arrested in $.5M sting

WESTERN Division police believe  they have made a major breakthrough in a number of break-ins and robberies in the Diego Martin area over the past three months with the arrest of a five member Bagatelle Road family, and two friends. In an exercise which started at 4.15 am and ended at 2 pm yesterday police visited three homes in the Bagatelle area where they seized close to half a million dollars in jewelry, clothing, a laptop computer, electronic equipment, army camouflage items, digital cameras, play stations, a fishing gun, a pellet gun, pellets, a flare gun, flares, a quantity of still packaged clothing, and an Italian made professional racing bike valued at $18,000.

A 41-year-old mother, her 47-year-old common-law husband, children ages 14, and 17, cousin, 19 and friends 19 and 23 of North Post Road, Bagatelle, and Sandalwood Avenue, Diego Martin were arrested. Following positive identifications of the items seized, some of which still have price tags, charges will be preferred accordingly against the seven. Police in the meanwhile are calling on anyone from the area whose items have been stolen within the last few months to come to the station to identify any of the recovered items. Sources confirmed the raid followed months of surveillance. Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Gonzales, Insp Lezama, Sgt Duncan, Cpl Marcelle, WPC Walters, PC Reid, Telesford and others. PCs Reid and Walters are continuing enquiries.
