‘Eastern Lions’ set to devour Moruga

LEAGUE leaders Joe Public, the “Eastern Lions”, will have the perfect opportunity to wrap-up the 2004 National Super League title today when they meet second-from-bottom Moruga at Otis Memorial Park, Moruga, from 4 pm today. Moruga lose 14 of their 20 games so far this season and have conceded the most goals  — 72,  during a miserable campaign. On the other side of the coin, the Lions have netted the most goals — 78 and recorded most victories — 18, this year. The “Eastern Lions” need just one point from today’s game to put themselves beyond the reach of the opposition and clinch the title won in last year’s inaugural season by  L-Sporto Crab Connection.

Victory or a draw today will see Joe Public collecting the winner’s cheque of $70,000. The “Crabs’ will square off against Harvard from 6 pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, in the second match of a double-header, with the sliding WASA Clean and White taking on cellar-placed Carib FC in the earlier game from 4 pm. In other matches today from 4 pm, Medianet East San Juan United will host PLIPDECO Caroni at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground while Maraval Youth Academy will meet Club Sando at the Trinity College Ground. The Larry Gomes Stadium will be the venue for another double-header tomorrow, with Superstar Rangers opposing Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix from 2 pm followed by Police and Biwater Stokelyvale from 4 pm.
