$32M upgrade for John D, Sando Tech

The John Donaldson and San Fernando Technical Institutes are expected to be refurbished soon at a total cost of $32 million. According to a release from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education, the two institutions will also be equipped with “state-of-the-art” equipment and facilities to replace what has been there for decades. Out of the 12 laboratories at John D, 11 will be upgraded at a cost of $11 million, while all 15 labs at San Fernando Tech will be renovated at a cost of $19 million, the release added.

This includes the purchase of a refrigeration demonstrator for John D’s Mechanical Engineering Department and a compact bench-top air conditioning demonstration unit which includes a fan humidifier cooler, heater and small environmental chamber. Woodworking equipment will also be installed at both institutions. The automotive workshops at both institutions will also be outfitted with new equipment to train students to perform various types of analysis for today’s fuel injector engines. Since most new vehicles possess computerised components, the new equipment being purchased for the labs will be used to train students to repair the most modern computerised vehicles.
