2 Fatima boys in top ten list

TWO Lower Six students of Fatima College have made it on the list of the top ten students in the world, based on the 2004 University of Cambridge International Examinations (A’Levels). The boys, Anil Latchman and Antonio Arion Gellineau, tied for the fifth and eighth places respectively in Geometrical/Mechanical Drawing (GD). Their schoolmate in Upper Six, Stein Carrington, tied for tenth place on the list. The boys told Newsday yesterday they were overwhelmed and “really didn’t expect to do so well.” They also wrote Math, Further Mathematics, Physics and GP and got mostly Bs.

Having taken a “shot” at the exams a year early, they now move on to Upper Six with more determination to try to “achieve better grades.” Their Physics teacher Francisco Garcia told Newsday it was a remarkable achievement and the two boys, who are good friends, were “steady and really of high quality.” GD teacher Anthony Young was unavailable for comment on the boys’ performance. Both Antonio and Anil said they are still to determine what field of study they will pursue after school and said they mixed both “fun and studying.” Antonio plays chess and rugby and is the head prefect, while Anil favours cricket and is the library prefect.  As for advice to other students, the boys said “If you really want something, it does not hurt to set goals.”
